Di Maria cant solve all Uniteds problems

Di Maria joins Man Utd

Di Maria can't solve all United's problems

28 August 2014 - 08:43

The news that Angel Di Maria is to join Manchester United should give everyone involved with the club a lift after a poor start to the season. The 1-1 draw with Sunderland was not much of an improvement on the defeat to Swansea in terms of the performances, and United look a long way behind their so-called title rivals.

  • Juventus and Roma to battle for 20yo Arsenal star
  • Arsenal linked with new shotstopper as backup to Raya

  • Against Sunderland, United again lacked pace and guile in midfield, with Juan Mata flattering to deceive once more. While Di Maria will give United that spark they have been missing, they cannot solely rely on the Argentine to dig them out of their current hole.

When Arsenal splashed out £42.5million on Mesut Ozil it gave the Gunners a huge lift initially. However, after the wow factor wore off, Arsenal were forced to look elsewhere for their inspiration once it was realised the German couldn’t do it all himself. Aaron Ramsey was the man to step up to the plate, but who will do that for United once the novelty of having Di Maria in the side has worn off?

It is too early to say how well Ander Herrera will do at Old Trafford, but the rest of United’s midfield does not inspire confidence. The Red Devils seem to be putting all their eggs in one basket with Di Maria, with the club not looking to improve their midfield further in this transfer window once the South American completes his move.

A quick glance at Chelsea and Manchester City’s squads, and it is obvious why these two are such a short price to win the league with bookies like Unibet (see the latest odds online here: http://unibetmobile.co.uk) when compared to Manchester United.

United boss Louis van Gaal will have to spend a lot more money if he is to overhaul the like of City and Chelsea in the long run. Di Maria is a step in the right direction but any United fans expecting an instant turn around are likely to get a reality check the first time their side face any of the Premier League’s big boys.
