The Hoops boss is believed to be keen on signing an experience centre-forward before the conclusion of the transfer window, and considers his former player as the ideal option to fit the job.

According to the Express, the England international, who currently plys his trade in the MLS with Toronto FC, has been offered a deal to join the West London club before the transfer deadline.

Defoe has previously played under Redknapp at Spurs, West Ham United and Portsmouth.
