Southampton close in on Toby Alderweireld loan move

Belgium international centre back Toby Alderweireld will complete a transfer to Southampton this afternoon. The centre back will leave Atletico Madrid on a season long loan deal.

The highly rated defender has failed to live up to expectations at the La Liga champions since his move from Ajax and is thus heading for a move to the Premier League.

Southampton coach Ronald Koeman is a huge fan of Alderweireld and had hoped to agree a permanent transfer for the Belgian, but Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is known to favour a loan transfer.

The deal is likely to be announced closer to the end of play on transfer deadline day and Southampton will pay approximately 1.5 million euros for the loan deal.
