Manchester United have emerged as front-runners to seal the services of midfielder Kevin Strootman from AS Roma in the upcoming transfer window.

The Netherlands international had been linked with a switch to Old Trafford over the summer, but a deal failed to materialize.

According to ESPN, in spite of Roma rejecting the transfer speculation surrounding Strootman, the Mancunian giants are believed to be in strong position to sign the Dutch playmaker in the New Year.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the Dutchman in recent weeks.
