Arsenal look set to seal a deal for one of Portugal's best in the winter transfer window.
The Gunners have lacked a holding midfielder of genuine pedigree ever since the departure of Alex Song to Barcelona in the summer of 2012.
According to The Star, manager Arsene Wenger is keen on solving the defensive midfield crisis, and considers Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho as the perfect fit to the role.
The report adds that a deal could be agreed between the parties involved in the next couple of days.
Arsenal are currently fifth in the Premier League.
