Bent the hattrick man

Bent the hattrick man

Wigan finally got their first win in 14 games thanks to a hattrick from Marcus Bent as they crushed Blackburn 5-3. Tempers did flare however, as Brett Emerton was later sent off on the hour.

  • The home side raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Denny Landzaat, Bent and Paul Scharner, before a 15-minute hat-trick from Roque Santa Cruz brought Blackburn level at the beginning of the second half.

Blackburn for whom Brett Emerton was dismissed after an off-the-ball incident with Ryan Taylor went behind again soon after when Bent headed home his second, and he made sure of the points and his hat-trick with a close-range finish 10 minutes from time.

Tempers were fraying and it was no surprise to see a sending-off when Brett Emerton got his marching orders on the hour mark for a second bookable offence in an off-the-ball incident. Rovers then sensationally hauled themselves level when Santa Cruz completed his treble with a header.
