Benitez: I could have left

Rafa Benitez has admitted for the first time that he could have left after his well publicised feud with Liverpool owners Hicks and Gillett. Benitez was keen to think ahead to January signings, but the Americans told him it was far too early.

Benitez is due to hold talks with the American owners in the coming days, but Benitez insisted: "I have analysed the situation, yes, as I was surprised.



"But after thinking a lot, I said 'okay, the best way to find a solution is to keep trying to win every game'. After that I need to talk to the owners about the misunderstanding.



"For me it's very simple if you want to win and you are trying to do the best things for your club - and if they want the same - then it will be easy.



"But it's clear to me my position at the club is different now. We need to analyse why."
