Arsenal are planning to offer young winger Joel Campbell as makeweight in a deal to sign long-term target William Carvalho.

The Portugal international has been long linked with a switch to the Gunners, with reports claiming that the club failed with a January move for his services.

According to The Mirror, the Gunners are unwilling to match Sporting's £35m asking price for Carvalho.

It is also understood that the North London outfit will try to lower the asking price by offering Campbell in a player-plus-cash deal.

Campbell is currently plying his trade on loan at Villareal.
