Preview: Derby vs Liverpool

Preview: Derby vs Liverpool

26 December 2007 - 00:28

Derby's spirited display against Newcastle at St. James Park has indicated that they are improving and looking for a victory. Derby were thumped 6-0 in September at Anfield, and will be desperate for a reverse in the form here today.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Suspensions and Injuries

Derby boss Paul Jewell has several injury problems to contend with as defenders Claude Davis (knee), Andy Griffin (calf) and Andy Todd (back) are all out, while midfielder David Jones is sidelined with a groin strain.

Captain Matt Oakley, who missed the 2-2 draw at St James’ Park on Sunday, is again doubtful with a thigh injury.

Peter Crouch will continue his suspension.

    Squads

Derby: Bywater, Mears, Moore, McEveley, Leacock, Barnes, Edworthy, Oakley, Pearson, Lewis, Fagan, Howard, Miller, Teale, Earnshaw, Feilhaber, Holmes, Price.

Liverpool: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hobbs, Hyypia, Riise, Aurelio, Benayoun, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Kewell, Babel, Lucas, Sissoko, Kuyt, Torres, Voronin, Itandje.

    Jewell: all to do

"I am a realist, I know we have got it all to do.

"All I can ask of the players is that they give me everything they have got.

"Day-to-day we are gradually improving and coming around to the way we want to do things because every manager is different and does things differently."

We think there could be a big shock on the cards here and that Derby could rescue another important point in their fight for survival.
