Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has signed a new contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.

  • The 27-year-old midfielder was in the final year of his contract, but has now extended his stay at Wearside for the next six seasons.

    "Lee is the controller of the side. He is a motivator, a leader and central to the success of our team." Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat told the club's official website.

    "To know that he will be with us for many years to come is very important to the club."

    Cattermole joined the Black Cats from Wigan Athletic in 2009.
