Maniche to Sunderland?

Maniche to Sunderland?

31 December 2007 - 00:28

Despite Atletico Madrid's chairman insisting Maniche will be staying at the club, eyefootball can reveal that the Portuguese midfielder could be playing in the Premiership as of January with Sunderland set to make an offer for the international midfielder.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Several Italian sides are all interested in Maniche but were put off by Atletico's high asking price.

Atletico's president Cerezo quipped: "Atletico have aimed to get the best players, and Maniche is one of them.

"He has a year and a half left on his contract and hopefully he'll see it out.

"We want him to continue and we hope that everything will be resolved.

"What happen with Maniche happens in all teams. A season can bring problems and arguments, but there is settlement.

"Problems arise in locker rooms all over the place, but they pass and we forget them. We are counting on Maniche."

With Roy Keane keen on bolstering his midfield for the second half of the season, Maniche may be a reasonably cheap alternative as rumours state Maniche can leave for £4.5 million.
