  • It had been recently reported that the World Cup winner had agreed contract terms with the Mancunian giants and a transfer could be finalized in the upcoming days.

Rummenigge has now confirmed that the 30-year-old has decided to join the Red Devils as he seeks a fresh challenge in his career.

"We tried to convince him to stay with Bayern Munich," said Rummenigge. "But I also understand that a player who has been at Bayern for 17 years, at the end of his career still wants to gain a new experience." he said in a press conference.

United are expected to pay a fee in the region of £14m for the German sensation.
