Blatter shocked at Capello job

Blatter shocked at Capello job

07 January 2008 - 17:51

Sepp Blatter has controversially moved to claim he is disappointed that The FA chose to appoint another foreign coach and touched upon the examples set by other successful nations who go for coaches within their own countries.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Blatter stated: "I have never seen Italy, Germany, Brazil or Argentina with a coach from another country.

"In fact, most of the best teams have a coach from their own country." Though not, of course, the countries in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe whose cause he is always so keen to champion.

Blatter also blasted Premiership sides for recruiting expensive imports: "But look at the international scene now. Which foreign teams are coached by English coaches? And where are the English footballers playing abroad?

"It is clear something has changed in terms of the world's appreciation of English football."
