Schalke forward Leroy Sane had rebuffed the chance to join Liverpool over the summer, club director Horst Heldt reveals.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a January move to the Premier League, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool interested in his services.

However, Horst Heldt now claims that the young striker was the subject of an £11m bid from the Reds in the summer.

He added that Sane rejected the offer outright as he was more keen on developing his skills at Gelsenkirchen.

Sane signed a new two-year contract at Veltins-Arena in the summer.
