Preview: Arsenal vs Bham

Preview: Arsenal vs B'ham

12 January 2008 - 10:40

Arsenal - currently leading the Premiership - host Birmingham at the Emirates today. Some former young Gunners such as Fabrice Muamba and Sebastian Larsson return to take on their old club, whilst Arsenal play their first Premiership game minus their African Cup of Nations absentees.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Injuries and Suspensions

Johan Djourou (groin) is definitely out, so Justin Hoyte, Bacary Sagna or Gilberto could fill in for Philippe Senderos who could also miss out. Robin van Persie (flu) is sidelined, while Emmanuel Eboue, Kolo Toure and Alexandre Song are all at the Nations Cup.

Damien Johnson is set to wear a protective mask for Birmingham, and Olivier Kapo has recovered from a knee injury. Radhi Jaidi is at the Nations Cup.

    The Lowdown

Birmingham are yet to score a Premier League goal on Arsenal turf, and Arsenal have a two point lead over United at the top of the table. Birmingham have won two, drawn two and lost three of seven league games under Alex McLeish.

    ARSENAL 3-0 BIRMINGHAM

It should be another win in the Premiership for the Gunners despite several notable absentees. Eduardo will fill in admirably for van Persie again.
