Man Utd to appoint Jose Mourinho?

18 December 2015 - 04:23

Manchester United could consider the position of manager Louis van Gaal following news on the sacking of Jose Mourinho, Paul Merson says.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • The 52-year-old was asked to part ways with the Blues yesterday following a lean spell that saw the club win just four of their opening 16 league games.

Van Gaal's United have had a much better start to their campaign, notching 29 points to sit fourth in the league standings.

However, the Dutchman has been strongly criticised by the club's faithful for the lack of creativity in his style of play.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson feels that Van Gaal will be under huge pressure to perform in the coming weeks as the Red Devils could be tempted to swap him for Mourinho.

"LVG will be looking behind him. If it doesn't go well for Man United in the next week or two, I think they might look and think, 'One of the best managers in the world of football is available. Let's get him'," he told Sky Sports News.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have also been credited with interest for the Portuguese head coach.
