O'Connor stuns Gunners

12 January 2008 - 18:19

Garry O'Connor stunned Arsenal today as Alex McLeish grabbed a surprise point at the Emirates Stadium today against the Gunners. Adebayor had given Arsenal an early lead from the spot, but Birmingham battled away and earned a point.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • Taylor's reflex save denied Eduardo from point-blank range following Alex Hleb's cross from the left - though the Croatia striker put his header too close to the stopper.

But Taylor was frustrated on 21 minutes as the Gunners snatched a contested opener.

Stephen Kelly's challenge from behind on Eduardo possibly got a touch of the ball in the end, but referee Phil Dowd pointed to the penalty spot.

That enabled Adebayor to calmly slot his 13th goal of the season into the bottom right corner.

Yet Brum never buckled, despite the Gunners' comfortable, stylish passing - and they even tested the home side down the right.

It was from out of nothing, though, that Birmingham levelled three minutes into the second half.

O'Connor headed ex-Gunner Sebastian Larsson's corner downwards in the six-yard box, and the ball bounced up off Cesc Fabregas to wrong-foot Almunia.

Arsenal will now be hoping that Man Utd drop points this evening.
