Schalke 04 have confirmed that defender Joel Matip has agreed to join Liverpool at the end of the season.
The Cameroon international had been tipped to make a move to Anfield with his current deal due to expire in June.
André Breitenreiter's side have now revealed that the 24-year-old has agreed to link up with the Reds on a four-year deal starting this summer.
"I have always said that I would leave Schalke for only one reason - to do something new. Although my decision is definitely not easy, I am convinced that now is the right time to take this step," Matip told Schalke's official website.
Matip has been at the Gelsenkirchen outfit since the age of nine.
