Will Bayern Munich win the Champions League in Pep Guardiola’s final season?

18 April 2016 - 12:15

At the end of the season, Pep Guardiola will leave Bayern Munich and the Allianz Arena for a fresh challenge in the Premier League. While many Manchester United fans were hoping that the club would make a late swoop, it was ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City who acquired the ultimate prize of the greatest manager on the planet.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  •

And while the future is bright for Guardiola and City, the Spaniard will be fully focused on guiding Bayern Munich to a third consecutive Bundesliga title. However, the Champions League may be his number one priority this season, especially as he is yet to win Europe’s elite club competition since leaving Barcelona in 2012.

At the time of writing, Coral are offering 6/4 on the Bavarians to win the competition in their Champions League tips and betting markets. To be honest, it would take a brave man to back against them, particularly as Barcelona were eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

The four remaining sides are: Bayern, City, Atletico and Real Madrid. Talk about an impressive line-up for the semi-finals. For now, Pep’s current and former sides have been kept apart. Perhaps they are destined to meet in the final... either way, Guardiola’s Bayern will have a difficult two-legged tie with Atletico to negotiate first.

Bayern are capable of beating anybody on their day and the German side are rightly favourites to win the competition. As read in the quarter-finals, Bayern’s two frontmen Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller have over 70 goals between them in all competitions this season and both men will play a key role in the coming weeks.

Plenty of tipsters and writers will be offering Champions League tips in the coming weeks but it’s fair to say that all four sides are capable of winning the competition. Bayern may boast the best squad on paper but City’s heart, Atletico’s romanticism and Real’s hunger will stand them all in with a great chance of reaching the showpiece event in Milan.

Can the Bundesliga giants go all the way this season? Potentially. If they avoid serious injuries in the coming weeks, they are more than capable. Their testing league schedule may actually help Bayern rather than hindering them, especially as their star players will stay sharp – particularly in attacking areas.

And if Guardiola’s men can remain focused on one game at a time, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Bayern feature in the Champions League final at the end of what could be a historical season for the club.
