The 26-year-old came close to joining the Mancunian giants during his time at Bayern Munich two seasons ago.

However, United boss Louis van Gaal vetoed the transfer agreement and player opted to link up with Real Madrid in an £18m deal.

According to The Mirror, the club's hierarchy are set to renew their interest in the World Cup winner with Van Gaal's future under consideration.

Kroos is said to be frustrated with life in the Spanish capital despite earning a regular role in the first-team this season.
