Keegan reveals disappointment

Keegan reveals disappointment

19 January 2008 - 22:49

Kevin Keegan has revealed his disappointment at seeing his Newcastle side failing to grab a win on his first game in charge against Bolton.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • "The icing on the cake would have been to have put in a better performance than we did and win the game but I suppose you start to get greedy and want everything," Keegan said.

"There was a tremendous reception and that was something we hoped the players would build on, but we didn't give them enough today, we didn't give them quite enough to send them home happy.

"Maybe in little glimpses in the second half we showed that we are a team that wants to win games, that wants to play in front of them and that we have a lot of players who can.

"The 16 players you saw on the team sheet today were the only 16 players we could pick, so despite having a quality squad here it is depleted by suspensions, and with the Joey Barton situation that's four players we missed today, and the African Nations Cup where there's another four.

"You take eight players out of any squad its always going to be difficult."
