Hornets hopeful of Deeney stay

Watford ready bumper deal for Troy Deeney

24 June 2016 - 07:24

Premier League minnows Watford are set to double the wages of Troy Deeney in a desperate bid to keep hold of his services. The striker formed an excellent partnership with Odion Ighalo upfront as the Hornets beat the drop last season.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • Deeney has been the subject of multiple bids from Leicester City in recent weeks, but the Hornets stay firm in their desire to keep hold of their club captain.

According to The Telegraph, the Hornets are willing to offer an improved contract to the 27-year-old amid claims that Foxes could lodge a fresh attempt for his signature.

The proposed deal would see his wages bump up to £50,000-a-week, nearly double of what he is currently earning.

Deeney, who has yet to earn international recognition, was an outside candidate to make the Northern Ireland squad at Euro 2016.
