Kalou brilliance sinks Nigeria

Kalou brilliance sinks Nigeria

21 January 2008 - 19:08

Salomon Kalou produced a moment of real brilliance to help Ivory Coast beat Nigeria 1-0.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • A game which did not meet up to the pre-match hype came to life mid-way in the second half when Kalou jinked inside three Nigerian defenders and cooly slotted home.

Nigeria despite being the highest ranked African team in the world showed very little in attack, and only came closest in the first half when Taye Taiwo hit the post from a well struck free-kick.

Ivory Coast showed a lot more enterprise in the second half with key performances from the Toure brothers and Kalou.

Now Nigeria have to beat Mali in their next game to stay in the tournament all together. Ivory Coast however now top the group and with a win in their next game will guarantee a safe passage into the next round.
