Vogts: Nigeria will qualify

Nigeria coach Berti Vogts believes that his side will still qualify for the Quarter Finals of the African Nations despite a 1-0 defeat to the Ivory Coast in their opening game of the tournament.

  • xx3518640xl "We have lost against the best team in Africa," said the 61-year-old German.



    "But we will be back. Two years ago, we lost the first game and we qualified for the knockout stage."



    Nigeria are still to face Mali, who they now trail by three points, after Freddie Kanoute's penalty gave them a 1-0 victory over Benin.
