Erik Lamela to stay at Tottenham

Argentinian attacker Erik Lamela has told reporters that he plans to stay at White Hart Lane next season, despite rumours of a potential return to Italy. The talented playmaker has been linked with a move to Napoli.

Lamela, who spent time in Italy with AS Roma, had suggested just one month ago that he would consider leaving Spurs, but today denied the rumours of an imminent departure:  “Ever since I came to Tottenham I’ve heard that I am supposed to be leaving. It is the same every summer. I do not know why.

“Even when things did not go as planned at the start, I never thought about leaving.

“Last year we did very well by finishing third. I feel we can do even better this season.”

Lamela has three years remaining on his Tottenham contract.
