Ibrahimovic: Rooney is perfect partner

Zlatan sings Rooney's praises ahead of testimonial

Ibrahimovic: Rooney is perfect partner

03 August 2016 - 14:58

New Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has insisted that club captain Wayne Rooney is the perfect stike partner.

  • Enzo Fernandez wants to leave Chelsea
  • Man Utd can finally sign Ederson for huge bargain fee

  • Speaking to MUTV, the veteran Swedish forward said: "I said many years ago the perfect partner for a striker is Wayne Rooney. He works not only for himself but for the striker and the whole team."

Ibrahimovic joined United last month on a free transfer after his contract with French champions Paris Saint Germain expired. The 34-year-old spent four years in Paris in which he became the club's all time highest goal scorer, and netted 50 goals last season to help PSG win a domestic treble.

Ibrahimovic made his first appearance in a United shirt last weekend, scoring an acrobatic scissor kick in a 5-2 friendly victory over Galatasaray in Stockholm, Sweden.

United are set to take on Everton tonight in Rooney's testimonial, with the game being streamed live on Facebook.

Rooney has been at United since 2004 after joining the Red Devils from Everton as an 18-year-old for £27 milion.

The England captain is on course to become United's all time top scorer this season, needing just five more goals to eclipse Sir Bobby Charlton's record.

New United manager José Mourinho has insisted that Rooney will not be played in midfield this season, as the Portuguese coach thinks that the 30-year-old's finishing skills mean he is most effective when playing as a striker or number 10.
