Schweinsteiger: Man Utd my last club in Europe

The World Cup winner has no intention of leaving United for another European club

Schweinsteiger: Man Utd my last club in Europe

24 August 2016 - 11:34

Bastian Schweinsteiger has released a statement to declare that Manchester United will be his last club in Europe, as speculation continues of the German midfielder’s future at Old Trafford.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Schweinsteiger signed for the Red Devils last summer in a £6 million deal from Bayern Munich. There were high hopes for the World Cup winner at United, but a series of injuries limited him to making just 18 Premier League appearances, with only one league outing in the second half of last season.

When José Mourinho took over from Louis van Gaal during the off season, it was made clear early on that Schweinsteiger di not figure in the new manager’s plans, and was free to find himself a new club.

Schweinsteiger has not figured in any of United’s match day squads so far this season, and has reportedly been made available for transfer to any club willing to meet the Red Devils’ €2.5 million asking price.

But Schweinsteiger’s statement suggests that he is not willing to leave the Old Trafford club, as he stated that United were the only club who could have lured him away from Bayern, and that he is ready and available should his team need him.

It is thought that Mourinho is keen to offload Schweinsteiger in order to clear his hefty earnings from the club’s wage bill.
