Leicester City have broken their club transfer record with the £30 million signing of Algerian striker Islam Slimani from Sporting Clube de Portugal.
The Foxes had been linked with a move for the prolific forward for several weeks, and last night, on transfer deadline day, they finally got the deal across the line.
The £30 million fee that the Premier League champions have laid out for the Sporting star, smashes the club record set by the £16 million purchase of pacey attacker Ahmed Musa from CSKA Moscow earlier this summer.
Slimani, 28, scored 32 goals in in 42 games for club and country last season, and the Algeria international has scored 57 goals in 109 appearances for Sporting, after joining the club in 2013.
At international level, Slimani has again proven himself to be prolific, netting 23 times in 43 caps for Algeria.
Slimani will link up with his international team mate Riyad Mahrez at the King Power Stadium, and the two will hope to strike up an understanding straight from the off, as the Foxes continue their first ever title defence.
Leicester Were also negotiating with Sporting for the purchase of Portugal international midfielder Adrien Silva, with the Foxes reportedly offering around £38 million for the midfielder, but the Portuguese club elected to hold onto their star man, having already lost Slimani, as well as Joao Mario who joined Internazionale for €45 million.
