Manchester United outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger has been named in the club’s 25-man Premier League squad, suggesting there could yet be hope of the German midfielder resurrecting his Old Trafford career.
With the transfer window now closed, all Premier League clubs have had to register their final 25-man squad for the league season.
And Manchester United have included Bastian Schweinsteiger in their squad, after the player had previously been considered surplus to requirements by manager José Mourinho.
Since taking over from Louis van Gaal after the end of last season, Mourinho made it clear that Schweinsteiger does not figure in his plans and should therefore look for a move away from old Trafford in order to play regular football.
The former Bayern Munich player, who has been training with United’s under-23 side so far this season, has insisted he wants to stay at the club and fight for his place. Schweinsteiger claims that it is still his dream to represent the Red Devils, and that he will not sign for another European club.
It was recently reported that Sporting Clube de Portugal made an offer to sign the veteran midfielder, but Schweinsteiger refused to move, incurring the anger of Mourinho. The Portuguese coach was keen to see the former Germany captain depart in order to free up some space on the club’s wage bill.
But with his inclusion in the Premier League squad, could Schweinsteiger be set for a second chance at United?
