Sigurdsson - I made the right choice

Gylfi Sigurdsson : 'Everton move never on my mind'

12 September 2016 - 06:46

Swansea City star Gylfi Sigurdsson has admitted that he made the right decision to extend his stay at the Liberty Stadium. The Icelandic footballer was never keen on a summer exit.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • Sigurdsson, who enjoyed a successful summer with Iceland, was believed to be on verge of joining the Toffees in the transfer window before he committed his future to the Welsh outfit.

The 27-year-old has now insisted that he has no thoughts of linking up with Ronald Koeman's side, and his new deal was only held up due to the takeover from an American consortium.

"Your friends are asking you all the time: 'Are you going to sign for Everton?' But I'm really happy here. I'd been discussing a new contract with the club for quite a while," he was quoted as saying on the Telegraph.

“It got delayed because of the Americans coming in to take over. Once that was done, there was no reason why I would want to go."

The attacker was part of the Iceland setup that surprisingly ousted England in the round of 16 of the European championships.
