Stephane Sessegnon joins Montpellier

Stephane Sessegnon has penned a two-year contract with French side Montpellier despite a late approach from Burnley. The 32-year-old had been out-of-contract following his release from West Bromwich Albion in the summer.

  • The Benin international was believed to be considering an offer from Sean Dyche's side earlier this week after he stalled over a possible return to France.

However, Montpellier boss Frederic Hantz convinced the attacker to make the move to Ligue 1 having previously held a good relationship with the player at Le Mans a decade ago.

Apart from Le Mans, Sessegnon also featured for Paris Saint-Germain in France between 2008 and 2011 before he took up a new challenge in the Premier League.

The experienced forward made a total of 156 league appearances during his spells with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion in the top flight.
