Stephane Sessegnon has penned a two-year contract with French side Montpellier despite a late approach from Burnley. The 32-year-old had been out-of-contract following his release from West Bromwich Albion in the summer.

The Benin international was believed to be considering an offer from Sean Dyche's side earlier this week after he stalled over a possible return to France.

However, Montpellier boss Frederic Hantz convinced the attacker to make the move to Ligue 1 having previously held a good relationship with the player at Le Mans a decade ago.

Apart from Le Mans, Sessegnon also featured for Paris Saint-Germain in France between 2008 and 2011 before he took up a new challenge in the Premier League.

The experienced forward made a total of 156 league appearances during his spells with Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion in the top flight.
