Gunners failed with ambitious approach for Aubameyang

Arsenal failed with £50m offer for Aubameyang

28 September 2016 - 08:24

Arsenal are reported to have made a club-record bid to pursue the signature of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last summer. Borussia Dortmund turned down the offer as it was well below their valuation.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • According to Spanish outlet El Confidencial, Arsene Wenger was keen on recruiting a world-class marksman to his ranks over the summer, and this urged his side to lodge a £50m offer for Aubameyang.

However, BvB were never really tempted to offload their asset with the club's hierarchy willing to wait for a bigger offer on the table in the future.

BvB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed this week that Aubameyang could be allowed to leave the Bundesliga outfit, if any club matches their £80m plus asking price for the player.

Meanwhile, Aubameyang still remains firm on his ambition to play for Real Madrid despite Arsenal being the closest to secure his services in the summer.

The Gabon international has racked 87 goals for Borussia Dortmund since arriving from Saint-Etienne in 2013.
