  • Spanish sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Manchester United made an offer of Barcelona superstar Neymar this summer, putting forward a staggering contract offer that would’ve seen the 24-year-old Brazilian earn €32 million per year after tax.

But United’s mammoth offer was gazumped by French champions Paris Saint Germain, who said they would pay the player an eye watering €40 milion per year, which works out to just under £700,000 per week.

Despite receiving these enormous offers, Neymar elected to sign a new contract with Barcelona, keeping him at the Camp Nou until 2021, with his release clause eventually rising to €250 million.

Neymar joined Barca from Brazilian side Santos is a deal worth over £70 milion and has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and the Champions League in his three seasons with the Catalan giants.

He has also been capped 73 times for Brazil and has scored a staggering 49 times for his country, putting him on well course to eclipse the great Pele as their all time top scorer before his finishes his career.

United instead pumped most of their transfer budget into securing the world record £89 million of Paul Pogba from Juventus, and are said to be weighing up an £80 million move for Antoine Griezmann next summer.
