Atleti to offer Carrasco new deal amid Chelsea interest

12 October 2016 - 16:25

Atletico Madrid are set to offer Beligian winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco a new contract to raise his £35 million release clause, in a bid to fend off interest from Chelsea, according to reports.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • The Daily Mirror is reporting that La Liga side Atletico Madrid are set to offer star winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco a bumper new contract as they hope to fend off interest from Chelsea.

The Premier League side are said to be interested in signing the former Monaco attacker, with manager Antonio Conte said to be a fan, and viewing Carrasco as the man to reinvigorate their attack.

But Atleti are keen to hand onto the 22-year-old, feeling that he will be a key player for them as they hope to mount a La Liga title challenge.

Los Colchoneros will look to bump Carrasco’s release clause up from the current £35 million.

As it stands, Chelsea would not be put off by Carrasco’s buyout clause as, in the current market, for a player of his quality, it would represent somewhat of a bargain.

Carrasco’s team mate Antoine Griezmann is also thought to be a target for the Blues, and Atleti tied the Frenchman down to a new deal a few months ago. Griezmann’s buyout now stands at an eye watering €100 million, which would mean Chelsea would have to smash their transfer record to secure the player.
