Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has revealed he left Old Trafford in a bid to develop his managerial career.
The Welshman played deputy to Louis van Gaal for two seasons before he declined a similar role under new boss Jose Mourinho.
Giggs wanted to occupy the head coach position at his beloved club after Van Gaal was axed from his job.
However, United had already made the decision with Mourinho being their preferred option to guide the side back to the Premier League summit.
The 42-year-old has since resigned from his assistant position at the Mancunian giants, and he is now focused on earning himself the managerial post at a fresh club.
"It was the right time. It was a brilliant two years education wise, but it was a tough two years. I was ready for a break away from football."he told the Manchester Evening News.
He added that he still dreams of managing his former side, and it would be something he would savour in the future.
Gigg holds the all-time appearance record for Manchester United having appeared in 963 outings between 1990 and 2014.
