Arsene Wenger hopeful of Ozil extension

29 October 2016 - 18:36

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the club are still holding negotiations over a fresh deal with Mesut Ozil. The German international is currently the highest paid player at the Emirates.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • The 28-year-old has been in fine form for the Gunners over the past year, and this has urged the club's hierarchy to resolve his future at the earliest opportunity.

With his contract due to expire in June 2018, Ozil is said to have demanded wages of around £250,000-a-week, and this is something the club are reluctant to match.

Speaking prior to the Sunderland game, Wenger insisted that his side are in an initial stage with regards to the player's situation, and there is nothing concrete to conclude at present.

Ozil has amassed over 125 outings for Arsenal since his club-record move from Real Madrid in 2013.
