Arsenal are set to revive their long-standing interest in Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez. The Uruguay international is also a transfer target for Manchester United.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to add a new centre-half to his ranks in 2017 as he bids to offer a strong challenge for the Premier League title this term.
According to Don Balon, the French coach is hopeful of landing Gimenez in a £26m deal, which is far off from the defender's £56m buy-out clause.
Gimenez has played back-up to the likes of Diego Godin and Stefan Savic over the past year, but this has not reduced his importance under Diego Simeone.
League rivals Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the young defender, who has earned 21 caps for his national team.
