German footballer Bastian Schweinsteiger has insisted that he is still hopeful of regaining a first-team role at Manchester United.
The World Cup winner was forced to train with the Under-23 side at the start of the campaign after he refused to pursue a fresh challenge away from the club.
However, he has since regained his place in the first-team squad after he impressed with his behaviour in training.
Speaking to reporters, the former German international revealed he is eyeing a possible recall to the matchday squad having kept himself fit over the past couple of months.
"I'm trying to keep myself fit for the situation in which I am needed. Hopefully I will be given a chance. I look forward to training every day, and being able to train with the team. I don't know if I will get a chance, but I hope so," he said.
The former Bayern Munich star has been heavily tipped to join the MLS in the New Year after being in contact with Chicago Fire boss Veljko Paunović over the past week.
