Conte rules out Andrea Pirlo signing

10 December 2016 - 06:06

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted that his side will not be pursuing the services of veteran midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • The 37-year-old, who plys his trade for New York City FC, was spotted at the Blues' training ground on Friday morning, and this led to claims that Conte could look to sign him.

However, in a pre-match pre-conference, the Italian coach confirmed that Pirlo had just come for a visit, and he would return to the MLS where he has another 12 months with his current employers.

"Andrea came here only to visit and he has another year of contract in America. He is playing and enjoying his football in America. I'm pleased for this visit because Andrea was my player at Juventus for three years and we won together," he told reporters.

Pirlo won four successive Scudetto titles with Juventus between 2011 and 2015 before he opted for a challenge overseas in North America.
