German international Mesut Ozil is close to inking an improved contract with Arsenal. The World Cup winner has been in discussions over a fresh deal since the end of last season.

  • The 28-year-old, who has about 18 months left on his contract, is said to have stalled on talks over an extension due to the Gunners' reluctance to match his wage demands.

According to The Mail, the Gunners have finally reached an agreement with Ozil which will see him commit his future on a new five-year deal. The German playmaker will earn wages of around £200,000-a-week once the club finalize the necessary paperwork.

Meanwhile, the Gunners still have a long way to go with Alexis Sanchez, who is said to demand a £400,000 weekly package. The Chilean is adamant over his current situation, and the Gunners could cash in on his services in the final year of his contract (next summer).

Alexis is being linked with a potential move to the Chinese Super League where a number of mega-rich clubs would be willing to match his wage demands.
