Young On His Way To China?

Ashley Young has attracted interest from China

Young On His Way To China?

21 January 2017 - 15:35

Ashley Young could be the latest English Premier League player to be heading for the Chinese Super League, with Shandong Luneng reportedly interested in the Englishman.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Former Chelsea boss to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd?

  • Young, who is now aged 31, has found it difficult to find game time for the Manchester club since the arrival of manager Jose Mourinho, and the prospect of a high wage and regular run outs may be enough to persuade the former England international to swap North West England for Eastern China.

After starting out at Watford, Young moved to Aston Villa, where he became a key part of their side in their push for a Champions League place. His spell at Villa Park ended in 2011, when he was bought by Manchester United, for a fee believed to be in the region of £17 million. In his time with The Red Devils, Young has appeared 151 times, chipping in with 14 goals. His international career has also brought 30 caps and 7 goals.

Should the transfer go through, Young will not be the only familiar face at Shandong Luneng. The side are currently managed by former Fulham coach Felix Magath, and have players in their squad including Graziano Pelle and Papiss Cisse. Despite this, the team sit in fourteenth position in the Chinese Super League currently, and will therefore be hoping that landing the signatures of players such as Young can help propel them up the table.
