Pompey sign Defoe

Pompey sign Defoe

Jermain Defoe has signed for Portsmouth after Spurs agreed to let him go. Tottenham had ended their four year affiliation with the striker and after much speculation he has finally left the club.

  • Defoe has found it increasingly difficult to feature in the Spurs first-team due to the successful partnership of Keane and Berbatov.

His contract expires at the end of next season and Spurs are keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

Defoe has also been left out of Fabio Capello's first England squad for the match against Switzerland on 5 February.

I can't wait to be honest. I want to get it done and get my boots on. I'm happy," Defoe told Sky Sports News ahead of the deal's completion.

"For the rest of the season I want to get as many goals as possible, and most importantly get three points and just do well for Portsmouth."
