Man Utd to pay off Wayne Rooney?

Manchester United are prepared to pay off the remainder of Wayne Rooney's £250,000-a-week contract in order to allow him leave on a free this summer.

  • The England international, who has 15 months left on his existing deal, will see out the rest of the season with the Red Devils after having snubbed a move to China during the previous month.

Rooney has been largely a squad player since the start of September, and this has urged him to assess his options despite Jose Mourinho wanting him to stay for next season.

According to The Sun, the EFL Cup winners are due to release their all-time top scorer at the end of the season with former club Everton prepared to offer him a fresh challenge in the top flight.

Rooney currently has 250 goals to his name at United - the last being the record-breaking goal via a stunning free-kick in the 1-1 draw against Stoke City in January.
