Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is prepared to reward Ander Herrera with an improved contract following his standout performances in midfield this season.
Herrera, 27, has emerged as a regular in the centre of the park this term with Mourinho handling him the responsibility to cut down movement from the opposition.
The Spaniard has been particularly impressive with his interceptions this season, and this has reduced some of the burden on Michael Carrick, who is in the latter stages of his career.
His showing has also not gone unnoticed with Spain as well as he earned his maiden cap in October 2016 where he came on as a second-half substitute in the 2-2 friendly draw against England at Wembley.
The Sun reports that the former Basque player is set to earn a long-term extension at Old Trafford with his existing deal due to expire at the end of the campaign.
Herrera was an unused substitute in the frustrating 1-1 draw against Bournemouth last weekend, but he could be tipped to start against Rostov in the Europa League, last 32, first-leg in midweek.
