Former Barcelona star has ambitions to manage his old club

Playing for Barcelona is a highly prestigious honour for any footballer, but that's not enough for one man. After being a star player for the La Liga powerhouses, he wants to return to the club in a coaching or managerial role when his playing days are over.

  • Chelsea set £35m price to sell 20-goal striker
  • Man Utd ready to pay £55m to sign top defensive target

  • Xavi is a legend at the Nou Camp, and was a key figure in the squad that dominated European football in recent history. In his time at the club, Xavi picked up eight La Liga medals, won the Champions League four times and also lifted the Copa Del Rey four times.

At the end of the 2014/15 season, Xavi's time at Barcelona came to an end, when he signed for Al-Sadd in Qatar. His contract there expires in 2018, and the Spaniard has spoken of his future plans.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Xavi said that his aim is to "arrive as a coach at Barcelona", but also acknowledges that his role will depend on the timing and situation at his former club.

It would not be the first time that an ex-player would take charge of Barcelona, with former players Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique doing the same. Barca are currently looking for a new manager, as the latter announced that he will leave at the end of the season.
