Schweinsteiger leaves United

Manchester United have allowed Bastian Schweinsteiger to agree a deal to depart Old Trafford with immediate effect. The former Germany captain has found it difficult to break into the team since Jose Mourinho arrived, and he will now focus on playing for his new team.

  • 32 year old Schweinsteiger has agreed to join MLS side Chicago Fire, with a medical and visa just needing to be completed now. The World Cup winner has previously been linked with Chicago Fire, but Schweinsteiger opted to stay with the Premier League club.

However, after making just four appearances this season, the highly popular player has decided that now is the right time to move. As Schweinsteiger was unlikely to feature between now and the end of the season, United bosses agreed to allow their player to make the move immediately.

Since the move was confirmed, Schweinsteiger has released a video on social media thanking everyone involved with Manchester United. "I have enjoyed working with the manager, players and staff, but I have to reserve a special thanks to the fans. I will always remember their energy and passion."

Chicago Fire currently sit in seventh place in the MLS Eastern Conference, with just three games of the season having been played so far. Schweinsteiger will now join up with his new team mates for his initial one year deal, which is rumoured to be worth £70,000 a week.
