New Portsmouth signing Jermain Defoe has admitted he is delighted to be working under Harry Redknapp again after the two enjoyed a spell at West Ham together. Tottenham's sale of the striker came as a surprise during the last day of the football transfer window.

  • "It feels great," 25-year-old Defoe told Sky Sports News. "I'm delighted. It has been a long time coming and I'm looking forward to the challenge.



    "I was sweating a little bit to be honest, but at the end of the day when it all went through I was delighted.



    "At a football club when a new manager comes in you say to yourself 'maybe I can get an opportunity, maybe things will change'.



    "I was getting a bit frustrated as I wasn't playing a lot of football. I want to score goals and now I'm a Pompey player and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Sometimes in life you have got to think about yourself."



    "I was with him at West Ham when I was young and he is a great manager. There was talk about him being England manager not too long ago and when I spoke to him I thought I definitely wanted to come here."
