Conte wants to sign Pirlo

05 April 2017 - 09:06

Antonio Conte is not sitting back and enjoying his team's seven point lead at the top of the Premier League. The Italian manager is plotting how he will take Chelsea's success further next season and drawing up a shortlist of names that he wants to bring to the club, both on and off of the field. One of the names is Andrea Pirlo, who he wants to add to his coaching team .

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • Pirlo is currently playing for MLS side New York City, but at the age of thirty seven, the curtains will soon close on a fantastic career for the former Italy international. Now, Pirlo's former manager Conte is looking to work with him again.

Antonio Conte managed Pirlo for three seasons during their time at Juventus, meaning that they know how eachother work. Speaking to talkSport, former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins explained that Pirlo "is the one he (Conte) wants to bring in", with the added bonus that he "speaks English and he can come in tomorrow." The deal won't have come out of nowhere either according to Wilkins, who says "I know for a fact he's been around Stamford Bridge a few times this season."

The NY City midfielder also speaks very highly of Conte, telling ESPN "Conte for me is the best coach. He is a genius." Pirlo would bring with him a wealth of knowledge and experience about the game that would help to improve any player, as Chelsea look to go from strength to strength next season.
