Man Utd open Michael Carrick contract talks

Manchester United have reportedly opened up negotiations with midfielder Michael Carrick over a one-year extension at Old Trafford.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The former England international has been an excellent servant for the Red Devils since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur back in the summer of 2006.

Carrick has earned a regular spot in the heart of the midfield this campaign despite the presence of the likes of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in the squad, and according to the ESPN, the club's hierarchy are willing to prolong his stay by a further year.

The 35-year-old has previously insisted that he could hang up his boots once he is released from United, and the proposed renewal would offer him the chance to further his trophy-laden career.

Carrick is due to have a testimonial in June this year following a decade-long service for the Mancunian giants, who are hoping to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The former Spurs man has managed 14 Premier League starts for Manchester United in what has been a stop-start season by his standards.
